Well, this is my first opportunity at posting a blog for The Sly Seven. With the arrival of Mia Bailey Sly, we truly are seven now. Mia arrived at 2:23 AM on Jan. 15th. She weighed 7 lbs 1 oz, and was 18 & 3/4" tall (almost as tall as me). She has beautiful skin and gorgeous dark brown hair. She came to the world very quietly and refused to cry. It started to worry me at first because you want to hear that first burst of the lungs screaming out to say "I'm here!"...but Mia seems to be pretty laid back. She let out a tiny yelp and that was about it, in spite of the fact all of the nurses were poking & prodding her to try to get her to react. It was amazing that I could feel so much concern for someone I had only known for a few moments. She was so small, so delicate, and so defenseless. It doesn't seem to matter if it is your first child or your fifth, that special feeling is the same. Its an amazing experience to see, touch, and smell someone so new to earth and so near to Heavenly Father.

Kara couldn't have handled the process any better than she did. I guess you could say that she has become quite the pro at child rearing. She was so calm when she told me she was ready to go into the hospital. None of the crazy panic that you see on TV or the movies. She was all prepared with her hospital bag, lap top, and plenty of pajamas. She even remembered snacks for me and money for the vending machines (cuz she knows I'm addicted to DP). When we were getting ready to go she decided to go take a shower, and shave her legs, and get all dolled up. Once we got to the hospital, things progressed really fast, and with the exception of the fact they didn't give her adequate medicine in her epideral, everything went very well. Since Mia's birth, Kara has adjusted very quickly to life "post preggers". We're still in the hospital for another night, and Kara is in no real hurry to go home. She's enjoying the "high life" here at this new hospital with the flat panel TV, full menu of food she can order when she wants, and a large room for her and Mia.

The kids came by yesterday to check out their new sis and were so excited to see her! Cameron has been very set on naming his baby sister Mia and will be very pleased to find out her name. Maddy is Maddy. She is always so upbeat and cheerful about everything. She is very proud to have 2 little sisters now. Isaac asked to hold her right away, as he always such a go getter. I'm not quite sure what Ava thinks, but she seems to like her little sister. We'll have to see what happens when we bring her home and mommy and Mia are chillin all the time.
Finally, just want to say "thank-you" to everyone who has helped out. Grandma J was a huge help and came over right away to take care of the chillins while we went to the hospital. Kara is always comforted to know when her mom is there to watch over the kiddies while we're gone. Thanks to everyone else that has helped us out in different ways...Anyway this blog has probably been a lot longer than it should be, but what can I say? I'm a rookie.

Congrats again guys! She is adorable! I'm glad you finally decided on a name. Looks like Chris lost. :) Let me know if you need anything (food, babysitter, etc.) and I will be there. Hope things are going great back at home!
I'm glad you guys liked my first post...however, I'm learning this blog system really stinks for manipulating photos. Somehow everything got overlapped and jumbled up. But the Kara Queen of the Blogoshpere is here to save the day and fix the pix.
Chris
Welcome to this world Mia! We are so glad you are here :-) You are going to have so much fun as part of the Sly Seven and you will be loved more than you can imagine. I'm looking forward to seeing you in person soon!!
ps- Chris - great job at your first blogging attempt - I was very impressed :-)
great post, Chris!! Man, looks like I missed Mia by only a few days. Perhaps I can make a special trip between now and June to meet her in person. Yesterday I showed a family pic (the one taken this past summer) to some colleagues here in Mexico. They were very impressed, especially when I told them my sister (some 16 months my elder) gave birth to #5 this week. You guys are wonderful, a tremendous example to me. Love you lots!
Congratulations on the arrival of #5. The 5th child must know that they have to be laid back in order to survive in a large family. Brielle was the same way. She didn't squak at all, I kept asking if she was ok. She is still an awesome and great baby and such fun. I'm sure Mia will be the same way. I will have to schedule a time to come and visit after everything settles down. Congrats again.
Mia is beautiful. Congratulations Chris and Kara!
I couldn't be a prouder grandpa (or "Papa"). I am so proud of you guys. It is so much fun bragging about my family - but then I must be careful of pride!
congrats again! the pics are adorable and we cant wait to meet her!
